Perfect Grades

I bought these 2 kits from HLJ.com, they had this huge sale a few months ago.

I just got this from Customs (Philippines), both was shipped via EMS (from Japan). And it has been on-hold there for almost 2 months now. why? (dont ask)… on top of that, i wasn’t even notified at all. It was all me. I was asking all around… some friends, friends or friends, relatives and even strangers… I also went to our local post-office 3 times (i think), and was just asking for the status (i have this worry that if i dont follow-up it might get lost in limbo). I even called the EMS office in Manila. The only answer they gave me was, “Just wait for it sir, it will be delivered to your local post office.” But I’m not gonna just sit and wait after 45 days since it has arrived in manila o_O

Bottomline, its not recommended to ship high value items to PH via EMS (or local post). Especially if its a high value item.

Anyhow, I’m still happy I still got my goods after paying over priced taxes. I wonder which one should I choose to build next… ^_^

MG Blue Frame Astray 2nd Revise

This was my birthday gift from my wife. ^_^ (i managed to tricker into buying me one. hehehe). Just kidding, anyway, of all the gunpla I have, she liked my master grade red frame so much, i manage to convince her that the master grade blue frame will be a perfect display shelf partner to him. And the rest is history. She didn’t know what to get me for my birthday, so I used the inception method (yes, the movie) and lead her to believe that this is what “she wants” to give me, but we all know that, it is what “I want” her to give me.

Head is very detailed. Unlike the red frame, his V-fin is inside his head armor (or helmet). which means it wont fall of very easily (like the red frame does). I almost resembles the helmet of a dirt bike rider.

Arms are exactly like the MG red frame (its just blue instead of red). that means it comes with all is awesome articulation, details and glory (if there are any).

Legs are also the same. With a few exemptions. like a retracting blades on the feet and daggers on its hips. Other that that (and the blue color), its molded the same way.

He is the blue frame side by side with the red rame. even thought its obvious that they are suppose to be the same. I still don’t feel like they are. small details make a big difference. tactical arms, shoulder armor, helmet, etc.

SD Strike Gundam Review

I was looking for this kit for a while now. And The moment I saw it on the hobby store near my home, I bought it immediately.

On most of the 1st part of this post, you will see an unpainted version of this kit. Built straight out of the box. As expected, like most SD kits, most colors are wrong and you have to paint it to make it look just right.

Like all other SD, this kit was very very easy to build. Its a good practice for me to practice my brush painting skills. (i still suck by the way). Hopefully with a little patience and alot of time, i’ll be better.

After adding some paint. here is my SD strike gundam.

Trying a few more poses, to show some articulation of this kit.

MG 1/100 Shin Musha Gundam Sengoku no Jin (with Display Base)

The moment I got this kit, i was so excited to build it. I did a lot of googling on how this would look like during and after building. Hmmm, just to get it right. No mistakes ^_^. And the moment I start building and cutting away from the tree, i forgot to start to document and take photographs. hehe. anyway, as you can see I started the gallery with the body and arms already built.

Im not sure If you would notice. I disassembled the head 2 times. why? the sticker where the headcamera (just on top of the v-fin), keeps on shifting the moment i put the head all together. and after 3 tries, it still wont stay in place. in the end I just gave up and will paint this instead. >_<

and I love the this kit’s inner leg frame. its so awesome. I do hope i you can notice it. I did a couple of macro shots for you to see. Its basically built from the tree, all you need to do is to cut it off and basically move some parts around.

Now for the waist/skirt area. like all master grades. this is the last to be constructed (based from the manual). and I must say, this must be the most cool front skirts i have ever seen. It has that shrimp like joints (i just wish they did the same on the back skirts). But hey, its still awesome.

I was trying to cut some pieces, and i cut my self bad. well not THAT bad, but it was bad enough for me to curse this kit for a couple of seconds. But after taking a look at it again. My anger went away and felt peace once again ^_^.

I still need to add some paint on the boosters to make it more metallic. It very plastic looking from behind.

time to work on the weapons and display base.

just after constructing it, i displayed it right where our new LCD TV. And it looked good. ^_^. Next I will try to add some panel lines and paint some minor details on the pumps, hydraulics and boosters. to make it more awesome than it already is.

HG 1/144 Gundam Throne Trinity (Eins, Zwei and Drei)

This is my 1st 1/144 scale gundams. I normally prefer 1/100 NG (no grades) over the 1/144 HG (high grades). I seems to me that Bandai have no plans of making a bigger scale for these 3 amazing kits.

They as basically very easy to build. especially if you build them all at the same day. Except for the head, color scheme and weapons, these three basically have the same mold. Even so, they are still fun to build.

Since my Eins is a resin kit. i experienced some problems with it. loose joints and pegs that dont fit. Fortunately its something that a little super glue can fix. I may consider getting a bandai one for this model.

As for Zwei. Even though its a bandai brand, I still have some small complains for this kit. Whenever you want to make a pose of him holding his sword, you have to disassemble his hand 1st, so that you can have him pose like that i did below.

As for the drei. i dont have complain (so far). i like the color scheme, like its cool poses and i like how its head look alot like from that alien movie. But im pretty sure this would even look better if i painted some details into it. Hopefully on my next post, (if i find the time to work on them).

Now i guess your asking why would i buy a resin kit of eins, when i have the other 2 (zwei and drei) from bandai. Its simple reason actually, I couldn’t find any Eins, on my local stores. Plus, I guess i also want to try experiencing on how to make HG 1/144 TT Hongli brands. And for the record, the bandai ones are far far superior especially on how accurately one mold fits into the other. For the TTHongli brand, 50% of the time, I have to either add super glue to thicken a part or shave of some parts with my hobby knife to make a part fit to one another.

MG Strike Freedom ZGMF-X20A (head, legs and arms)

I started working on the head. i just made it as is, i haven’t done any filing and painting yet. Actually for the head, i’ll just add panel lines and a touch or ‘top coat’ only. it looks good as it is anyway.

next will be the arms and hands. i noticed how big the hands are compared to the strike gundam. but i dont mind. its suppose to be a giant robot anyway. more gripping action (i guess).

After combining the head, arms and body together. i really like how the gold paint came out. looks good when its properly lighten. The only fall back is how stiff the joint become. But hey, im not complaining. Its just a ‘warning’ for those who want to make the inner frame of this kit look more gold.

as for the legs. i started working on them, but i noticed how late it was, and my wife’s making that ‘face’ again. you know, that face. anyway, took some photos before i went to bed.

as i woke up the next day, i started adding the armors and feet.

up next would be the weapons and accessories

i haven’t done any significant panel lining yet (just did some parts on the head and inner frame). will try to continue that some other day. Plus i’ll also add the decals next. (right after i panel lined it).

MG Strike Freedom ZGMF-X20A (body)

Today I started with the body part. and just like those other gunpla-ers (if there is such a word) who tired making the MG freedom strike’s inner frame look shiny gold, all the joints became “super” (and i mean super) stiff. i literally had to disassemble the model just to scrape off some plastic parts within the pegs and its connector. so far, so good. i guess when i reach the “legs and arms” part, i’ll do the same scraping method before i plug them in.

Anyway, here are some photos i took after constructing the body part.

MG Strike Freedom ZGMF-X20A (custom paint)

I just started painting the parts for my strike freedom today. It took about a month trying to find the “best” gold color i can use to convert and make this dull and yellowish non-shiny more eye candy. I tried not to put on too much paint cause based from other reviews I’ve read who tried painting this model kit, got a very stiff joints (which then made the model significantly hard to move). Anyway, i’ll try to post more photos if my fate will be the same as the others ^_^

SD Gundam Red Frame Astray Review

I’m usually picky when it comes to gundam, especially the SD ones. and so you know, this kit is my 2nd SD gundam (to date). and was happy i managed to get me one of these SD astrays. i loved the MG red frame so much, i wanted to buy the SD version of it (and also PG, if i saved enough before christmas or my birthday, or which ever comes 1st this year). and i am glad to say i didn’t regret it at all. i mean i dont mind buying a 2nd and 3rd one (and then customize and convert it to both gold and green frame respectively ^_^).

my thoughts… despite its size, i like how much detail they put into it. i guess bandai is really stepping it up. as for my next target SD (if i find any on our local stores), is the unicorn. anyway, here are some pictures i tried to take. nothing special. just something for you to look at.

MG Red Frame Astray (stickers and decals)

After a few days i finally got the time to sit and finish this master grade kit. the only problems i had with this was, some of the stickers and decals are super tiny. that i manage to accidentally transfered it to my fingers or clippers. :-( anyway, at least the “important” ones… like the one on his legs and shoulders i got right :-)
